LIRR Launches a New Campaign

State Senator Malcolm A. Smith announced that the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), a subsidiary of NY's Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has launched a new customer awareness campaign called "Be TrainSmart - Tune In to Safety." The purpose of the campaign is to enhance their parent agency's highest priority, safety.

"I couldn't agree more with the safety campaign's mission and strong focus on our children," said Senator Smith. "Through projects like these, our next generation of riders will have strengthened their understanding and preparedness to prevent accidents today and for years to come."

The LIRR is reaching over 250 local schools and organizations through their annual school safety contest; school group programs; and T.R.A.C.K.S. (Together Railroad and Community Keeping Safe) program to reinforce their safety measures initiative. The new program will feature catchy slogans on striking colorful visuals such as announcements, poster, brochures, and stickers targeting key safety areas and behaviors.

Additionally, to draw attention to the safety campaign, the Long Island Rail Road School Safety Contest is running through December 31, and is open to children 18 years and under.

To enter, complete a contest entry form or hand print your name, address, daytime phone number - including area code, the name of parent or guardian and the words "Long Is-land Rail Road Be TrainSmart Safety Contest 2007" on a plain 3" x 5" piece of paper and mail to: Long Island Rail Road Safety Contest, c/o Sales & Promotions/ Marketing Development Department, 146-01 Archer Avenue, Jamaica, NY 11435. Official rules are available at www.mta.info.
