David Esaw
Porter

David Esaw, a longtime Rockaway resident, died October 1.

Esaw, a porter, was born on May 5, 1919 in St. Matthews, South Carolina. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, where he sang in the Male Chorus. According to family, he was a sharp dresser who took pride in his suits and ties.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joyce Griffith and son, David Esaw Jr.

Esaw is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth and Annette Thomas; sons, William and Elmo Thomas, Emanuel and Stanley Esaw; grandchildren, Douglas, Wanda and Andrea Holt, Laleeka Coston and Darnell Norris; great-grandchildren, Quiame Griffith, Asane Coston, Chris, Mashauna, Josh, and Kennedy Holt, Jaden and Jaquan Griffith; four step-children, two stepsons and many relatives.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home. Visitation and service were held at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Interment was at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Cemetery in St. Matthews, South Carolina.
