Good News On Libraries
Dear Editor:

Reading opens doors to life... loves... jobs.

Books entertain, for sure, but they also make sense of our past, illuminate the present and light the crooked path to our future. Book depositories date to the pharaohs of Egypt; were transformed & Americanized by ole Ben Franklin and were gorgeously funded by Andrew Carnegie.

Four Queens libraries dot our Peninsula and I just recently heard the good news that they will now reopen on Saturdays (10 a.m. to 5 p.m., I believe). So...that new Tom O'Callahan murder mystery, or one of Oprah's latest, or that tome on 'computers for dummies' or maybe a video or movie tape are all available, free!!! If your book is not on the shelves here, it can be ordered thru the Queens Library network - one of the largest lending library systems in the entire nation - and delivered to Seaside, or Peninsula, or Arverne or Far Rock.

To commemorate the reopening of Saturday service, I hear that the Friends of the Seaside Library (Beach 117 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard) are planning a Saturday, October 27 reception at 11 a.m. and Councilman Joe Addabbo will be on hand to welcome library patrons.

PETE STUBBEN
