Fontbonne Hall Volleyball Bounces Back To Victory
The Fontbonne varsity responded with a strong effort, winning 3-0 (25-9, 25-9, 25-9). On Tuesday, September 25, the varsity had their rematch with Bishop Kearney and it took place at Fontbonne. Unfortunately, with two starters out of the match with injuries, the Bonnies had only seven players available and were unable to sustain their quick start. The Tigers prevailed, 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-10). On Thursday, September 27 had Bishop Loughlin traveled to Fontbonne. In three very close games, the Bonnies were able to defeat a tough Loughlin squad, 3-0 (27-25, 27-25, 25-19). In its only match this week, the junior varsity faced off against Loughlin on Thursday. Loughlin proved to be a very difficult foe; however the JV was able to win 2-1 (25-14, 19-25, 16-14). As the week ended, the varsity league record stood at 2-2, while the JV was at 2-0. On Saturday, both squads traveled to Maspeth, Queens and took part in the annual Martin Luther High School tournament for the second year in a row. Unlike last year when the Bonnies entered as a virtual unknown, this year, they came in as defending champs in both the varsity and JV competition.
The results were the same. The Bonnie Varsity and JV teams each won three-straight round robin matches and then prevailed in the semifinals and in the final.
