Hazel Pitt, a Rockaway resident, died August 13.

Pitt was born in Bethel, North Carolina on July 1, 1919 and moved to Far Rockaway at an early age. She was a board member of The Rockaway Community Corporation Headstart for 23 years. Pitt was also an active member of The Rockaway Tem-ple #320 (ELKS) for over 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lara Perkins Pitt of Bethel, North Carolina.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Pitt Bivins of Tarboro, North Carolina; two nieces; three great nieces; four great nephews; nine greatgreat nieces; four great-great nephews; and eleven great-great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements and services were entrusted to Willoughby Funeral Homes, in North Carolina. Interment was at Eastlawn Cemetery, Tarboro, North Carolina.
