for larger version       National Adoption Awareness Month Spence-Chapin Services to Families and Children, a nonprofit, nonsectarian agency providing adoption and adoption related services, celebrates National Adoption Awareness Month in November. Spence-Chapin focuses on finding adoptive homes for infants and young children in need of families, both in the greater New York area and around the world. It also offers free services and counseling to pregnant women in the New York/New Jersey area, and post-adoption services to all adoptive families through its Adoption Resource Center. Spence-Chapin started the Adoption Resource Center to provide quality, lifelong support and workshops, training and educational resources to all adoptive families. National Adoption Awareness Month seeks to spread information and dispel myths about the international and domestic adoption process. The theme is "Answering the Call." National Adoption Day 2007 will take place on November 17. National Adoption Awareness Month began in 1976 as an effort by the Governor of Massachusetts to raise awareness about the children in the American foster care system. The event extended to other states and was made an official month-long celebration and opportunity to raise awareness.
