Teamwork Brings Honor For Officers, Civilian
NYPD Transit Officers Brian Maher (center) and Mark Grant (right) and civilian John Messina (second from right), a New York City Transit track inspector, were honored by Transit District 23 at the September meeting of the 100 Precinct Community Council. Their teamwork led to the arrest of two men this summer who allegedly assaulted and robbed a high school student on the A train. Messina came to the student's aid after he saw the men attack and rob him, according to Lieutenant Peter Sallie (left). Messina then recovered the student's belongings, and when the train pulled in at the Broad Channel Station, notified Officers Maher and Grant, who arrested the men. Sallie said it was a good example of how civilians and police can work together. Danny Ruscillo (second from left), the council president, helped present the awards.
