Police Officer Joseph Strippoli of the 100 Precinct, said in court papers that he responded to the accident and found Dirrane sitting behind the wheel of his 1992 Nissan, with the keys in the ignition and the engine still running, despite the fact that he had rammed another vehicle. Officer Strippoli said that he observed that Dirrane had bloodshot eyes, that he had slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. When he asked the defendant to get out of his car, the officer said, he "was unsteady on his feet." The officer said in court papers that Dirrane admitted drinking earlier that night. Dirrane was transported to the 112 Precinct in Forest Hills, where an Intoxilyzer test was administered. Court papers show the result of the test was that the defendant had a .147 blood alcohol level, far more than the .08 necessary to bring charges. Dirrane was arraigned on September 25 on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to a spokesperson for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown. He was released on his own recognizance for his next court date, which was set for November 5.
The two unidentified school safety agents in the car were transported to Jamaica Hospital Center, where they were treated and released.
