Local Anti-Violence Rapper A Hit With New Album
CEO, the lead for a group called "The Rhyte Hitters," has released his new album, appropriately entitled, "Stop The War." While "True" staunchly refused to talk about his real name or his background, except to say that he is now a steelworker, his music does indeed warn teens of the violence of the streets and tries to turn them, instead, to education and a good job. One song on the album, "You're Headed for Self-Destruction," warns of allowing your friends to make your decisions. "The songs are all about staying alive on Rockaway's streets," True said this week. While there is some cursing on the album, True says that the songs have to "be realistic" for teens to buy into the message. "This is about what happened in my life," he says. "It's about what's happening on the streets."
