'Hot Autumn Night'At North Fork Theatre 10/20
Tommy James is an American pop-rock musician, singer, songwriter and record producer, best known as leader of the 1960s rock band, Tommy James and the Shondells. After a DJ found a copy of James' single "Hanky Panky" in 1965, the song and his career took off. James moved to Pittsburgh in 1966, after "Hanky Panky" became the top-selling single in the nation. He hired a local band named The Raconteurs to become the replacement of the original Shondells (who broke up before "Hanky Panky" took off). From 1967 to 1969, the group turned out hit after hit, many of which made it to the top ten, including "I Think We're Alone Now," "Mony Mony," "Crimson and Clover," and "Sweet Cherry Wine." To this day, Tommy James has sold over 100 million records. He has been awarded 23 gold singles and nine gold and platinum albums. James has left an indelible mark on his industry and his generation, with credits and longevity as an artist, songwriter, and performer that few have equaled. With the ever-increasing popularity of his music, there seems to be no end in sight.
