Tickets Appear After Signage Goes Missing
The Department of Transportation has acknowledged that a signage issue on the north side of Rockaway Beach Boulevard between Beach 88 and Beach 87 Streets may have caused some motorists to be ticketed unfairly. The missing sign effectively expanded the "No Parking" area for a corner bus stop. Motorists like Bin-Dan Chiang of Astoria (seen holding a $115 summons in the area where he was ticketed) and local businesspeople recently brought the matter to The Wave's attention. Craig Chin, a DOT spokesperson, said anyone who thinks they received a summons in that area in error should contact the agency at 212-442-7838. After providing the date and location and/or a copy of the summons, they will be given a document acknowledging the signage "conflict," which can be used when entering a plea of not guilty. The signage will be replaced on or about September 28, Chin said.
