Edna (nee McCracken) Baker

Edna (nee McCracken) Baker, an Alabama resident formerly of the Rockaways, died at home on August 25. She was 83.

Baker was born in Rockaway Beach on February 15, 1924. She graduated from Far Rockaway High School in 1942. In June of the following year, she married Fred S. Baker, who was serving his country in the United States Navy. The couple settled in Piedmont, Alabama in 1964. Baker worked for the Piedmont City School System as lunchroom staff and served on the city council. She was active in the Girl Scouts of Piedmont and was a communicate of St. Joachim Roman Catholic Church in Piedmont.

Baker was preceded in death by her parents, William and Edna McCracken, and a niece, Karen Breitkreutz.

Baker is survived by her husband, Fred; sons, Fred Baker (Carolyn) of Pratville, Alabama; Piedmont City Councilman William Baker (Cynthia); daughter, Marilyn Holland (Buster); seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Breitkreutz (Harland) of Toms River, New Jersey; and nephews, Robert and Thomas of Long Island.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Folsom Funeral Home in Piedmont. A memorial service was celebrated August 28 at St. Joachim R.C. Church with Father Alan Mackey officiating. Other arrangements were kept private.
