Get A Larger Flag
Dear Editor,

I just finished this week's Wave, with the story, "Beachgoers Ordered to Take Down American Flag," and was disgusted by the actions of the Parks Department once again. I immediately thought of how un- American and disrespectful this department has become toward the public.

If I read the article correctly, an uninformed bureaucrat cites a policy that doesn't exist, threatens law-abiding local beachgoers, tramples their civil rights and then she proudly calls herself a war veteran while running away from the scene of the "crime."

Do we still have a constitution to protect our rights, or does PEP rule with an iron fist, denying the Wade family their rights as Americans? Is anyone in the Parks Department patriotic - how about you, Abigail Lootens? Try to explain to Rockaway's residents how a sick baby thresher shark on Beach 109 Street and a flag flying down at Beach 104 Street endanger public safety.

Have you ever stepped foot on the boardwalk and beach, or do you dictate policy from behind a desk miles away from Rockaway?

Let me suggest an easier way to ensure public safety: restrict the number of ATVs, quads and trucks that drive along the beach and boardwalk. They are more dangerous to the public than a flag proudly flying at Beach 104 Street.

Buy a dictionary, Ms. Lootens, because the definition of "misunderstanding" and harassment are very different and your department is guilty of harassment.

Still in disbelief, but going out to buy a bigger flag for the Wade Family.
