Click Here for More Information More On Religious Symbols I only just recently learned about your Beachcomber editorial of July 13th, which had a somewhat negative approach to my City Council "Nativity Scene" resolution. My resolution simply calls upon the New York City Department of Education (DOE) to amend their holiday display policy for public elementary and secondary schools, to include a nativity scene or créche. DOE policy currently allows a Menorah and a Star and Crescent to be displayed during the winter holiday season, so long as they are displayed together. You should know that the courts have already determined that these are religious symbols! Clearly, it is unfair for some faiths to be represented and not others. I am only asking that Christians have the ability to determine what best represents their religion - not DOE. Displaying a Christmas tree is fine for the commercialization of the holiday season, but it does not, in any way shape or form, represent the religious significance of the season. If would be fine if DOE did not display any religious symbols. But, since they do - then be fair and treat all religions equally. TONY AVELLA
