St. John's Residence Dedicates 'Commemorative Square'
At the beginning of this year, St. John's invited friends and benefactors to help support the Home's Commemorative Square by donations towards engraved bricks. The beautifully renovated area is between the St. John's Administration and School building at Beach 111 Street and the Ocean Promenade. Paul J. Garavente, President of the Board of St. John's Residence for Boys, welcomed the crowd and introduced Father Paul Landolfi, Director of the Marianist Community at St. John's, to offer an invocation. In his invocation, Father Paul asked the Lord's blessing on all of those who have been part of the history of St. John's, as residents, staff, the Marianist Community, the Board of Directors, and the many friends who have been so generous in their assistance. Following Father Paul's invocation, Brother Tom Trager, S.M., Executive Director of St. John's Residence, offered some reflections on the idea of remembering the living and the dead who have been significant in our lives.
The refreshments included a beautiful, custom-designed cake; the surface of which was decorated with an artist's rendition of the Commemorative Square. What started out as a drizzly and rainy morning, turned out to be an enjoyable and inspirational occasion. Some participants expressed an interest in having their name included in the Square.
Brother Trager mentioned that there will be a setting of bricks each year; He urged anybody who is interested in purchasing a brick to contact Rita Tortorelli at St. John's Home, 718-945- 2800, Ext. 213, for an order form.
