Local youngsters found themselves better prepared for the new school year, after the NAACP Far Rockaway Youth Council sponsored a school supply giveaway last week.
The September 15 event, which took place on the corner of Beach 54 Street and Beach Channel Drive by the Ocean Bay Apartment complex, was highlighted by the distribution of more than 100 book bags. Thriftway Drugs in Far Rockaway donated $200 worth of book bags and school supplies valued at $75, while the New York State NAACP supported the effort by paying for more than $200 of supplies such as crayons, calculators, erasers, book covers and notebooks.
