The Feeling Of A Threat Was There
Dear Editor,

I have a great deal of respect for those who are members of very strict religious organizations, whether they are Jewish, Christian or Muslim. To follow all the precepts is difficult. I will never criticize them for these. What I do resent is the person who feels that he has the right to tell me what I must do because he believes in it.

When my late husband had a store in Borough Park, he arrived one Saturday morning to find two religious Jews waiting for him.

They were very polite and reminded him that it was the Sabbath and invited him to services. There was no threat but the feeling was there. He closed his store on Saturdays. What was the result?

In order to earn enough to support his family he had to do the work by staying in the store later the rest of the week. It did a number on his relationships with his children and the rest of the family.
