Tears,Roses And Remembrances At Tribute Park
People came to remember, to cry, to celebrate lost lives. The annual commemoration of September 11, the sixth anniversary of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center that killed upwards of 70 local residents, was held last Tuesday at Tribute Park. There were two ceremonies, one at 8:46 a.m. when the first plane hit the towers, and another at sunset to lower the American flag and to play "Taps." In the morning, residents and community activists left roses in honor of those who died on September 11. Among them was the mother of slain firefighter Henry Miller (wearing cap. Miller was a long-time Rockaway resident and graduate of Far Rockaway High School.
