Renovated Playground A Hit With Kids,Parents
Hammel Playground has reopened to the public with new play units, swings, resurfacing and a spray shower - and with plenty of nice weather remaining for kids and parents to enjoy, before the temperatures turn cold. "We welcome everyone out now to use the beautiful new equipment," said Abigail Lootens, a spokesperson for the Department of Parks and Recreation. In this photo, 9- year-old Jailene climbs on one of the new, brightly colored play units in the park, located at Beach 83 Street and Beach Channel Drive. The comfort stations (restrooms) will be renovated starting in the fall and should be complete by spring, according to Lootens.
Gregory Hood Sr. had fun pushing his son, Gregory Jr., 3, on the swing set designed for small children.
Two-year-old Nicholas takes a break on one of the park benches. A new play unit stands in the background.
Justin, 4, had fun on the slide and riding his tricycle around the park's grounds.
