Broad Channel Bits
Commentary By Liz Guarino
It was a lovely summer, all in all. The temperatures have cooled a bit of late, leaving us with nice nights for sleeping comfortably. Of course, there has been rain as well. Really drenching, soaking, heavy, wind-driven rains. Enough rain to make using an umbrella all-but-impossible, or useless.

You could hear the "Pipers" warming up, signaling the start of the Breezy Point Mardi Gras Parade. And, the parade gets larger and larger each year. I counted five pipe bands, maybe more. Next year will be the 50th Anniversary of the Parade and it will be all out!

Pomegranates
By Dr. Nancy Gahles
The only information "byte" that I had stored about pomegranates was that they were called Chinese apples. Why? I had no clue. I had never eaten a pomegranate in my life 1) because they were never served in my culinary world and 2) what do you do with all those seeds?

Are We Better Off Dead?
Commentary by Stuart W. Mirsky
I gave up my subscription to the New York Times about two years ago. I just couldn't take it anymore. While it still had some interesting stuff, it's relentlessly self-absorbed "progressive" agenda left me cold. It used to drive me bonkers, in fact, as far back as the eighties, to see the "spin" t...
