for larger version       Dolphins RB Returns As Peninsula Teams Gear For Battle The Far Rockaway Seahorses begin their PSAL varsity football season with a tough road contest at Midwood in Brooklyn on Saturday, September 8 at 12 p.m. The Seahorses were 2-7 last year and will face the Hornets, who are the only 5-rated team the peninsula school will face on their schedule this year. Midwood went 6-3 last year and reached the second round of the playoffs. RB Davonne Gittens, who ran for 947 yards last year, received a knee injury during a scrimmage last week and could curtail his time on the field. Beach Channel received a big blow when during a scrimmage last week against Bayside High School, starting left tackle and senior Evan Lacroix dislocated his right ankle and could miss the entire season. The coaching staff said Lacroix was a coach's dream and a stable piece of the offensive line that's going to be hard to replace. But the Dolphins did receive good news as they get ready to travel to Campus Magnet on Saturday, September 8 at 11 a.m. for their first game. Tyrek Mceachin, a freshman last year who rushed for 1,047 yards, returned to Beach Channel on Tuesday after reportedly transferring in the summer to South Side High School in Lawrence. But Mceachin didn't want to head to Long Island and wanted to return to his original school. "My mother wanted me to go there but I didn't want to go there," Mceachin said. I told her and I convinced her to send me back to this school. I told my father too." After many discussions, Mceachin's parents allowed their son to return to the school. Head coach Victor Nazario and the Dolphins coaching staff had heard from Mceachin at the end of August that he could return.
Even though Mceachin has officeially come back, he will not play on Saturday against Campus Magnet. When he does get on the field and in game shape, Mceachin should eventually make an impact.
