Beach 25 Street Lifeguards Become Part Of Community

This past Saturday, members of the Beachside Bungalow Preservation Association and Rockaway Waterfront Alliance gathered at the Beach 25 Street lifeguard station to thank Lt. Vinnie O'Donohue's crew for their service and support to the local residents in the area.
O'Donohue oversees the lifeguards posted at Beach 25 Street, and they became a welcome part of the scene, both on and off the beach this summer.
"We have been very fortunate to have the lifeguards here this year, and these young men and women really connected with the local community, making this one of the best kept secrets in New York," said Jeanne DuPont of RWA. "Local residents invited family and friends to come enjoy the beach together, which has fast become one of the most family friendly beaches in Far Rockaway."
For the past two years, both organizations have worked with the Parks Department to assist with recruiting of lifeguards and to support the local Department of Education lifeguard training program, to reduce the shortage of lifeguards present in New York City.

"This weekend marked the end of the summer beach season, but we hope to get O'Donohue and a few more posts next year to accommodate the growing number of people who have discovered this spectacular stretch of public waterfront," said Richard George, director of Beachside Bungalow Preservation Association.
