Accident On RBB Sends Parks Worker To Hospital

A horrendous crash at the corner of Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Cross Bay Parkway (Beach 94 Street) drew cops from the nearby 100 Precinct house and store workers who said that the crash sounded like an airplane hitting the building. A van owned by the New York City Parks Department and an SUV owned by a security company collided. Pictured, the scene of the crash.
The driver from Sanitors Security Company stands next to his vehicle, which was totaled in the crash. The unidentified driver told police that he was driving eastbound on Rockaway Beach Boulevard when he collided with the Parks Department van, but he was unsure as to what happened in the seconds before the crash. Police say that they are investigating the crash, but that it appears that the Parks Department van, which was heading northbound to the Cross Bay Bridge had the light at the time of the crash. The fact that both autos spun out and were facing in directions other than the directions they were traveling makes the investigation more difficult.
The unidentified driver of the Parks Department van was taken to Jamaica Hospital by EMS workers.
The force of the crash pushed these heavy concrete blocks, which have been in front of the precinct since 9/11, about a foot from their original position. Officials says that the presence of the concrete blocks may have contributed to the injuries suffered by the Parks Department worker.
