13th Annual 5K Memorial Run-Walk Benefits CYO Programs

The 13th Annual 5 K Memorial Run- Walk honors the memory of five children from Breezy Point, Rockaway Point and Roxbury who died due to tragic injuries. The Run-Walk is a benefit to raise funds for the St. Thomas More CYO program as the children being honored were once a part of the program including; Sean Smith, James Fahy, Lauren Caffrey, Kathryn Conroy, and Danny Thompson.

The 5K Memorial Run-Walk will take place Saturday, September 8 at the Sugar Bowl, located at the corner of Bedford Avenue and Oceanside Avenue in Rockaway Point. The start time is 10:30 a.m. There will also be a one-mile run for ages 7 to 12 and a peewee 220-yard run.

Registration for the Run-Walk will occur on the day of the race; the cost is $25 for adults and $5 for children under the age of 12.

Sneakers will be awarded to those who finish in first, second and third place, overall in the male and female categories. T-shirts will be provided to the first 750 people who register.

Prizes will be awarded for those who finish first through third place overall, in the following male and female age groups; under 13, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and over.

There is free parking available and the post-race festivities will include refreshments and music. Come spend a wonderful day as the 5K Memorial Run, which celebrates the children who make Rockaway great.
