Edita Rivas, a Rockaway resident since 1981, died August 23. She was 71.

Rivas, a homemaker, was born in the Dominican Republic.

She was preceded in death by her son, Luis Gutierrez.

Rivas is survived by her son, Jose Gutierrez; daughters, Maria and Alexis Gutierrez, Jacqueline Diaz, Glissette Castillo, Nelly Rivas and Niselly Bonilla; brother, Francisco Paulino; sisters, Maria Moya, Luz Paulino and Daysi Acosta; and 22 grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. AFuneral Mass was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church. Interment will be in the Dominican Republic.
