Click Here for More Information Teen Nabbed In Credit Card Scam Olivia Bailey, an 18-year-old Best Buy sales associate, is accused of letting someone she knows use stolen credit cards to purchase $13,000 in gift cards from a Long Island Best Buy where she works, according to Nassau police. Bailey allegedly allowed the individual, who has not yet been arrested, to make the purchases on at least seven occasions in July and August at the Best Buy at 345 Rockaway Turnpike in North Lawrence, police said. A store security officer notified the Nassau County Police Department following an in-house inves- tigation and Bailey was arrested on the night of August 21. Reached at home this week, Bailey told a Wave reporter that she "had nothing to do with it" and is only to blame for violating Best Buy's credit card payment procedure. "I'll explain it in court," she said. The teen said she started working for the electronics retailer about seven months ago, when she was attending Far Rockaway High School. She would not answer questions about the alleged co-conspirator, saying only that Far Rockaway is a small town and she knows a lot of people. Once activated, gift cards are similar to cash; Best Buy's gift cards are better than many others because they have no expiration date and no maintenance fees.
Bailey, who was suspended from her job, was arraigned August 22 on a charge of third-degree grand larceny, a felony. She is due back in a Nassau County courtroom on September 7.
