for larger version       Urge Groups To Apply For Neighborhood Grants Aprivate group dedicated to community betterment is urging local civic groups to apply for neighborhood grants to achieve their goals. "Do you have a great idea for a community improvement project," a spokesman asks. "If so, then be sure to apply for Citizens Committee for New York City's New Yorkers for Better Neighborhoods Grants, available today to community and volunteer groups who are interested in improving the quality of life in communities across the five boroughs." The small grants range from $500 to $3,000 and can help fund a wide variety of local grassroots projects ranging from neighborhood clean-ups, block beautification projects, financial empowerment projects, to neighborhood based Farmers' Markets. The deadline to apply for these grants is September 30. "Neighborhood groups are uniquely situated to understand and address the most pressing problems in New York City's many diverse communities," said Peter Kostmayer, president of Citizens Committee for NYC. "Citizens Committee for New York City is proud to award grants to the groups that are working tirelessly to build a better city for us all." The Citizens Committee New Yorkers for Better Neighborhoods Program was created to give small-scale community groups the tools and support they need to improve their neighborhoods. The program works closely with local groups around the City to identify top community concerns, and then it tailors grant making, training and technical assistance accordingly. In addition to the grants, Citizens Committee for New York City offers one-onone project implementation assistance, skills-building workshops, leadership training and an equipment loan library. Since 2004, the New Yorkers for Better Neighborhoods Program has provided almost $250,000 to local community based organizations.
