Rockaway Little Leaguers Saluted At Keyspan Park
Keyspan Park and the Brooklyn Cyclones were the hosts last Thursday night as baseball and softball players from the Rockaway Little League took part in pregame ceremonies on the field. Some of the young stars of the Rockaway Little Leaguers also participated in this summer's Diamond Pros Baseball Camp at Fort Tilden. Throwing out the ceremonial first pitch was Detective Herman Yan of the New York City Police Department, who was wounded on a routine traffic stop in Brooklyn as three suspects opened fire from their vehicle. The shooting also resulted in the death of Officer Russell Timoshenko, who was Yan's partner in a darkened street in the Sheepshead Bay section of Brooklyn in July. Yan was joined by NYPD Chief of Department Joseph Esposito and Brooklyn Cyclones mascots Sandy the Seagull and Pee-Wee.
