Big Brother NOW!
Dear Editor,

Contrary to the disapproval of Pete Stubben, (August 17, 2007), our Congressmen, Anthony Weiner and Gregory Meeks, must be complimented for their negative votes on Saturday, August 4, 2007, refusing to endorse a gutting of the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).

Mr. Stubben conveniently fails to mention that George W. Bush's desired revision of FISA allows, for the first time, wiretapping of all telephone calls from or to America WITHOUT court-issued warrants. Even the requirement for 72-hour retroactive notifications to the courts, in the event of an emergency situation, is eliminated by the Bush revisions. A vast majority of Democrats voted against the surrender of FISA's protection of American citizens; a vast majority of Republicans- including obedient Peter King of Five Towns- voted for a totally free hand for Bush's spies within the United States.

We are losing our Constitutional right to privacy, and our freedom from unreasonable and unjustifiable searces. The next step is the high-resolution license plate reading cameras about to be installed upon hundreds of lampposts below 96 Street in Manhattan, with private Defense Department contractors computer-monitoring every automobile's every movement, notwithstanding the strenuous objection of most New Yorkers.

Big Brother and fascism have arrived in America because of apologists for evil and cooperators such as Pete Stubben.

STEPHEN WOHL
