Gerard "Gerry" Romski, counsel and project executive for ABTS, was named with 16 others who will review the proposal, which seeks to charge a daily fee of $8 for cars and $21 for trucks to enter Manhattan below 86 Street. Panel members will also consider other traffic-reducing measures and must make their recommendation by January 31. Romski was appointed by State Democratic Minority Leader Malcolm Smith. "Mr. Romski will be a strong asset for members of the State Democratic Conference in working to address New York City's long-term transportation needs," Smith said in a written announcement. "His appreciation of public transit's role in that process as well as his open mind about the structure of any traffic congestion mitigation plan will serve our conference well." Bloomberg, Governor Spitzer, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco appointed the other members. Also appointed were Elliot "Lee" Sander, executive director and CEO of the MTA, Janette Sadik-Khan, commissioner of the Department of Transportation and Assemblyman Richard L. Brodsky, an outspoken opponent of the plan.
Romski was vacationing this week and was not immediately available to comment.
