Kenny Vance And The Planotones Wow At RMAC Concert

Kenny Vance and the Planotones ended another successful RMAC Sunset Picnic Concert Series and RMAC's 2008 series is already in the planning stages.
Although it rained on Sunday, August 19, the last show of the Rockaway Music and Arts Council's 2007 Sunset Picnic Concert Series, Kenny Vance and the Planotones, was presented with the gracious help of the Rockaway Theatre Company. The RTC cut short their rehearsals and opened their theater to RMAC and, while the performers were setting up, the audience was allowed to take their seats. Within a short period of time, the theater was filled to capacity, with standing room only.

Throughout the day, the RMAC's phone was "ringing off the hook" with Planotone fans inquiring as to the status of the show and where the indoor rain site was located. Originally the site was to be the Fort Tilden Post Chapel, which was a concern as the audience for this show was expected to be large. Almost at the last moment, with many people already present to attend the concert, John Musemeci, RMAC's Concert organizer, was advised by RTC's staff that the theater would be made available.

The show was an overwhelming success. Kenny Vance and the Planotones gave their fans just what they expected: a phenomenal performance of the classic 50's "oldies," proving that good music can still be appreciated. The applause, which at times turned into a standing ovation, was loud, as were the cheers that accompanied it. At one point in the show a number of couples got up and danced in the aisles, to the delight of all.
