Police Seek Bat Owner For Questioning
A light-skinned male, possibly Hispanic, about 5-feet- 6-inches tall, age 11 to 16, with hair braids past his shoulders, was seen with the bat about an hour before a shooting in which a 22-year-old man was killed. The victim was struck in the eye by a bullet at about 10:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 19 as he sat in a chair in a second-floor apartment on Beach 38 Street. The wood Rawlings bat, which measures about 21 inches in length, has the words "All Star" and "Adirondack" branded on it. Police were unsure if the black bandanna, tied just above the grip, had any significance. Police recovered the bat from an area resident who confiscated it from the group of males at the Beach 36 Street subway station. The males may be able to shed light on their homicide investigation, police said.
