Addabbo,Simon Inspect Rockaway's Boardwalk
By Miriam Rosenberg

Addabbo checks a rotted board on Beach 74 Street. Rotted, protruding boards with exposed nails were found up and down the boardwalk. Although the councilman left the walk at Beach 98 Street, he and his representative had already walked and documented the problems further up the boardwalk.
The Wave joined Councilman Joseph Addabbo Jr. and Democratic District Leader Lew Simon in a walk from Beach 73 to 98 Streets and from Beach 118 to Beach 129 Streets, as they documented the deteriorating condition of Rockaway's boardwalk earlier this month.

The August 3 inspection found rotted, protruding boards with exposed nails up and down the boardwalk.

Several area residents, including Dan Tubridy who lives at Arverne By The Sea and walks between Beach 95 and Beach 100 Streets daily, believe the condition of the boardwalk is a direct result of the heavy vehicles that travel the boards.

"Parks, police and other agency vehicles going up and down…the impact of the vehicles vibrate the boards, loosens and cracks them," said Tubridy. "It's a lawsuit waiting to happen."
Jerry D'Albora, the president of Dayton Towers Corporation; Democratic District Leader Lew Simon; a representative of Councilman Joseph Addabbo Jr. and the councilman inspect Rockaway's boardwalk.
Parks workers replace boards on Beach 91 Street during the walk. They began their work at Beach 83 Street on July 30 and average 10 boards a day, The Wave was told.
This dangerously protruding board and rusted nail was discovered walking along Beach 123 Street's boardwalk.
A gated area on between Beach 78 and 79 Streets sits waiting for repairs, yet Park's workers that were met during the walk on Beach 91 Street were working their way up, not down the boardwalk.
