Addabbo,Simon Inspect Rockaway's Boardwalk

The Wave joined Councilman Joseph Addabbo Jr. and Democratic District Leader Lew Simon in a walk from Beach 73 to 98 Streets and from Beach 118 to Beach 129 Streets, as they documented the deteriorating condition of Rockaway's boardwalk earlier this month.
The August 3 inspection found rotted, protruding boards with exposed nails up and down the boardwalk.
Several area residents, including Dan Tubridy who lives at Arverne By The Sea and walks between Beach 95 and Beach 100 Streets daily, believe the condition of the boardwalk is a direct result of the heavy vehicles that travel the boards.
"Parks, police and other agency vehicles going up and down…the impact of the vehicles vibrate the boards, loosens and cracks them," said Tubridy. "It's a lawsuit waiting to happen."
