'Very Disappointed' In Recent Editorial
Dear Editor,

Your damaging, appalling editorial of August 10, 2007 needs correction.

I didn't know you were a Talmudic scholar. For your information, the Torah tells us that we must do whatever is necessary, even on the Sabbath, to save a life; any life, Jew or non-Jew! Why didn't you check your facts before publishing such a damaging lie?

Your second error is the statement about Feldman being "cropped out" of his alumni picture. Both Feldman and the New York Times were informed that there were 16 other people who were also omitted from the picture because of lack of space.

The New York Times and Feldman chose to ignore this and went ahead with the publication of the essay with this error. This is a fact! Check this with the Jewish Week.

After so many years of admiration, you are a great disappointment to me. I'm outraged and horrified that you would attack other Jews in the public forum. We are vilified, denigrated and once again dehumanized by the rest of the world and you are giving the anti-Semites fuel for their fires!

Those of us who work in this community with the RCJC [Rockaway Catholic-Jewish Council] and other organizations to improve relations among the various religious and ethnic groups are horrified by the damage you have done!

Every group has its bad apples. However, to make generalizations about individual groups is dangerous.

You owe an apology to every Jew for your damaging rhetoric in the August 10, 2007 editorial.

I am a Reform Jew, not an Orthodox Jew. What you have done is truly unacceptable.

EVELYN WEBER
