Column Adds Fuel To Fire Of Hate
Dear Editor,

Shame on you. What in the world possessed you to use From The Editor's Desk to malign the Orthodox community in the Five Towns. What did you hope to accomplish? Did you think that the small, extreme minority of the Orthodox community that is trying to shut down stores not observing the Sabbath or having kosher certification from their own group would read your article and decide to stop doing what they truly believe is the right way? I believe people have a right to make their desires/wishes known. I do not believe people should threaten to burn or damage property to make a statement.

Will you next decide to condemn all those who are right-to-lifers because a small minority of them have bombed abortion clinics and shot at doctors performing those procedures?

I'm enclosing an article showing that Noah Feldman admitted he knew a week before the publication of the Times article that he was not intentionally cropped out of his reunion photograph.

The Eruv was not made up by the Orthodox community and is not used to "suit their fancy." What is so terrible about the Orthodox community asking that a neighborhood pool allow hours when men and women will not be swimming together?

Perhaps as a member of the Jewish faith you should take some classes in Bible and learn about the beliefs and practices of our people. As a Conservative Jew, I try to be respectful of all religious beliefs.

Since 9/11 and 11/12, I feel our community has come together, respecting each other. I think what you have accomplished is to give fuel to people who hate those who are not like them.

ESTELLE FLEISCHER
