Wants A Transit Plaza
Dear Editor,

In the July 20 edition of the Wave you had an article about a new Rite- Aid pharmacy on Beach 108 Street. If it is not too late, I'd like to offer a suggestion.

Why think small?

Why not make the site more commercially viable? Transit plazas seem to be the latest wave in Rockaway (pun intended). Why not redesign the project working with the MTAand the owners of KeyFood to create a transit plaza at the Beach 105 subway stop (the least used stop in the whole subway system).

This may be mutually beneficial to any business that opens there and the MTA. By cleaning up the area and having businesses there that people need and want, the train stop may see an increase in ridership at that station. Perhaps the city could even pitch in by building something to shield the whole thing from the Water Treatment Plant and decommission the Rockaway Freeway (a very dancontinued gerous road to begin with) the same way

they have done with

Arverne by the Sea to create a parking area with parkland. The transit plaza at Beach 116 Street does well and the shopping area at Mott Avenue is a busy spot also. Transit plazas will be popping up at Beach 67 Street, Beach 44 Street and Beach 36 Street.

Why not have one on the other end of the Rockaway subway system?

Rockaway is in need of businesses. Let's give businesses a good location near mass transportation and in turn help make Rockaway an economic success for all of us who live in the area.
