for larger version       Glance Into The Past Old Gilroy's Bar has finally gone kaput. Recently, the Hammels Seaside Adult Center has been condemned. It was formerly the Hammels Senior Center for approximately 40 years. I first started in the Hammels homes in 1975 and then relocated. I worked in the kitchen there for 25 years and I retired when I was 75. I've been a member for 35 years and I'm still kicking at 85! Our cook was Herman Gulderman and our director was Irving Oppermann. Other kitchen helpers were Lily Davis and Josie Markpolo. We received a small, monthly check from the city of $47.
