St.Francis Summer Classic Coming To Climax

Cross County Savings Bank joined the champions circle with a 48-44 win over T. Moriarty & Son to capture the Girls Grammar Senior championship. Rebecca Moers, Jill Conroy, Katie Henderson, and Regina Paskoff fought hard, but the one-two combination of Christina Smith and Taylor Butigan proved to be too much.

In addition to Smith and Butigan, coach Mark Butigan's Cross County squad includes Kyra Meli, Catherine Murphy, Kara Ryan, Emily Santiago, Megan Rochelle, Erin Blum, Kaitlyn Kenna, and Anna Pastina. Cross County reached the finals with a win over Ameritag on Thursday while Moriarty beat Flynn & Flynn in a nail biter.

In the Boys Grammar Middle, Rockaway Little League beat BRS, and the Orangemen squeezed J.G. Electrical Installations to advance to the championship.

Belle Harbor Yacht Club is on the verge of an historic achievement. Their Cinderella ride continued with a win over McManus Plumbing, to move into the finals against Caucig Utilities. Should they win on Wednesday, they would be the first team in the 23 years of the Summer Classic to go winless during the season and then win the championship. Caucig knocked out first-place Baily's Construction and will be a formidable opponent.

In the Boys High School Quarterfinals, the Wharf beat R. Tyne Painting, Dr. Schilling's POD's beat Sands Point Physical Therapy, Jameson's Pub ousted Breezy Point Lumber and Rockaway Seafood Company knocked out the Graybeards. Monday's semifinals saw Rockaway Seafood Company beat the Wharf and Schilling's upset Jameson's behind the shooting of Cody Gauvard.

Wednesday's championship schedule was as follows: 6 p.m., Boys Grammar Middle: Rockaway Little League- Orangemen; 7:15 p.m., Boys Grammar Senior: Belle Harbor Yacht Club- Caucig Utilities; 8:30 p.m., Boys High School: Rockaway Seafood Company- Dr. Schilling's POD's. Gray beat Gold in the Graybeards championship. Marshall Trusttum received the MVP for his outstanding defensive work. The Men's Open playoffs are now underway and the championship is this Thursday. The Girls High School division began and plays Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday this week in the gym. The season is over for many, but the Summer Classic goes on.
