The Student Athletic Scholarship Support (S.A.S.S.) program recently announced that Frederick Douglass Academy VI's Taj Peterson will be the first student-athlete this year to get assistance to obtain college scholarships.

The S.A.S.S. program was created in November of 2005 to help local studentathletes acquire means to gain college scholarships. The program is sponsored by City Councilman James Sanders Jr., (31st C.D.), along with the Rockaway Sports Association (RSA).

Peterson has traveled with his fellow FDA classmates to Paris, France and also attended the 2007 Friendship Games in Las Vegas. Peterson is enrolled in the New York State Supreme Court Law program in Brooklyn, where he is the lead prosecutor in a mock trial which pits the E.P.A. vs. some of the big oil companies.

He also participates in the RSA's Seawolves Lacrosse program and is an avid martial arts advocate.

St. John's University, University of Virginia, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Rutgers are just a few of the colleges that are showing interest in Peterson. The RSA, along with Peterson's parents Dan and Serena, congratulate Taj for his outstanding achievements.
