Sylvester Carl Farris
Former Auxiliary Police Captain

Sylvester Carl Ferris, who was known widely throughout the west end of Rockaway as "Cap" because he had been the longtime Auxiliary Police Captain, died August 9.

Farris, born in Cedar Gap, Missouri, was a jobber of auto supplies prior to his retirement and a long-time Rockaway resident.

Farris served in the U.S. Army during both World War II and the Korean War of the early 1950s.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria; two daughters, Teri Farris and Pamela Shapiro and three grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 10 from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. Interment will be at Pinelawn Cemetery on Long Island.
