Wrench Uncorks Hydrant,Loosens Heat's Grip
Kids cool off Wednesday afternoon in the fresh water gushing from an open fire hydrant on Beach 63 Street. The words "heavy duty," which could have referred to the 90 degree-plus heat and high humidity, were forged on the bright red handle of a pipe wrench that rested nearby, as the children took turns running and jumping through the hydrant's refreshing water - a time-honored tradition that the city frowns upon.
