RMAC Hosts Large Crowd At Fort Tilden For LI Pops
On Sunday, August 5, the Rockaway Music and Arts Council (RMAC) hosted the Long Island Pops orchestra, conducted by Dean Karahalis, at Fort Tilden as part of its Sunset Picnic Concert series. RMAC President Stephen Yaeger donated a pen and ink drawing of the famous NC-4 flying over Air Station Rockaway in the early 1900's. The drawing went for $200.

 | | The orchestra played a combination of show tunes, Sinatra and light classical music. In addition, it played the "NC-4 March," which was written to commemorate the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean. |

 | | Jim Serge has a powerful voice and he used it well with the Pops. |

 | | A number of local kids went up on the stage to help Karahalis conduct the final number of the evening, "The William Tell Overture." |
