Laurence Pump Wins RLL Major Girls Championship

The Laurence Pump Major Girls team
The girls of Laurence Pump and Well came into the "do or die" Rockaway Little League Major Girls Division championship game against their nemesis, Gift is Love.

The determined, yet apprehensive Laurence, suffered their only two losses in the regular season at the hands of Gift is Love.

In the championship game, Laurence picked up two runs in the first inning. Ashley Basta and Erin Tacopina each walked and both were driven home by Becky O'Connor's base hit.

Gift is Love quickly retaliated by scoring three runs on three walks and two base hits to take a 3-2 lead.

The lead for Gift is Love would be short-lived as Laurence took control of the game by using their robust offense.

By the top of the fifth inning, Laurence's offense had secured 16 runs, 10 hits and 19walks.

In their 14-run onslaught, Laurence had plenty of run support from a large group of players. Basta had a triple and walked twice. O'Connor recorded two doubles and a single; Tacopina knocked a two-run homer, a double, and a walk; Pauline O'Shea hit a double and had two walks; Rebecca Resner hit a booming double; Julia Falcone had a nice game by hitting a double and two singles; Cody Dripchack singled; Alexis O'Connor Marissa Scotto, Kristen Lonnborg and Judith Wanderer and Cat Murphy also made big contributions.

Defensively, Laurence held Gift to six hits and five walks. Shortstop Dripchack, leftfielder Wanderer and Erin Tacopina made key plays.

The final score of the game was a resounding win for Laurence as they won the game, 16-5.

Congratulations to a terrific team of "gals" who played each game with a lot of heart. Thanks also go to the parents of the players for their sacrifices and support. Erin Scotto and Bill Murphy volunteer numerous hours of their time and gave their effort and hard work to coaching the players. Special thanks to those parents who gave of themselves above and beyond, notably Milissa and Rich Resner, Anthony "Windmill" Scotto, Tom O'Connor and Marino Falcone.

The team would like to wish much happiness and success to our high school bound girls. May you all persevere and have great success if you pursue your dreams in making each of your high school's softball teams.
