National Gymnastics Day At Aviator 8/4

Aviator Sports and Recreation will host its inaugural National Gymnastics Day on Saturday, August 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Originally started in 1999 by legendary USAgymnastics coach and current National Gymnastics Day chairman Bela Karolyi, the program is free and will be featured in sports clubs across America.

"National Gymnastics Day is an exciting way to promote the sport of gymnastics as a lifelong activity" says Wendy Hilliard, Aviator Sports' Director of Gymnastics and Youth Sports and Camps. "At Aviator, we have participants in our program that range from 12 months to 86 years of age. This is a great way for us to showcase our gymnastics program."

Saturday's schedule includes a warm-up session with Aviator gymnastics instructors during the first hour, followed by a 30-minute exhibition of Aviator gymnasts who perform in different programs. The day's activities conclude with an open gym.

"The goal for National Gymnastics Day is to educate the public about the health benefits of gymnastics," said Julio Pacheco, Aviator's head gymnastics instructor. "Participants in the sport learn how to increase their agility and flexibility by incorporating all mechanics of the body. For more information or to attend, contact Aviator Sports and Recreation's gymnastics department at 718-758-7575. Saturday signups, with special discounts, will also be available.
