Get Your Facts Straight On The Constitution
The following letter is in regards to the Beachcomber column entitled "Nativity Scenes In Schools," that appeared in the 7/13/07 edition of The Wave. Dear Editor,

Here it is only the middle of July and already The Wave has begun their usual tirade against the Christmas Holy Day season and all accompanying symbols and decorations! Why are you so against Council Member Tony Avella's crusade to allow Nativity scenes and créches alongside menorahs and the star and crescent? After all, allowing these religious symbols to be placed alongside each other would be the ultimate celebration of diversity, would it not? As far as your erroneous quote of the First Amendment of the Constitution (were you asleep or absent when American history was being taught?), I will quote you directly from that esteemed document: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof….." Nowhere does it "demand separation between church and state"! Kindly get your facts together before making such outrageous statements and deliberately misguiding people's opinions!
