for larger version       A Parking Ticket For What? I recently learned that a visiting friend of mine got a parking ticket three months ago in front of 178 Beach 118 Street for blocking their "driveway"? Unfortunately, he paid a large fine, which should have been given to the owners of that house, not him. You see, there is no driveway in front of that house, or even a garage, just a painted yellow curb done by the owner. The city stopped painting curbs yellow for years! You do not even see a yellow curb by bus stops! If he would have only known this he would have fought the ticket and won. The house right next to that one also painted their curb yellow and placed a broken basketball court in front of it, so no one will park in front of their house, also. It amazes me on street cleaning day that I have to run out of my house to move my car so I don't get a ticket, yet this basketball court sits in the street and they get no ticket. I have complained to the police, who say to call 311. I called 311 and they told me they came down and inspected the area and it is in violation; they said they were issuing the owner a letter to rectify it. Yet, I see no change. So, I've gone to the police, 311 and now the local paper. What do you have to do to get someone to do anything here? Hopefully those like me who spend the night looking for a spot to park will also call the police and 311 to complain. A lot of us have been parking close to the fire hydrant, which really is not a legal parking spot. Yet, with all the legal parking spots getting taken away… what choice do we have?
