Parks Enforcement Officers Let Some Rules Slide

In your July 6 paper, you had a nice showing of the readiness at Beach 116 Street. I have been a resident of Rockaway since I retired in 1999 and the only rule that the Parks Enforcement enforces is the ban of alcohol on the beach.

They do not stop people zooming down the boardwalk on bikes. They do not stop people walking dogs, leashed or unleashed, on the boardwalk or on the beach. They do not stop people feeding the seagulls and littering the beach, and they do not stop panhandlers from annoying people. All of these rules are posted on the boardwalk.

So, I guess my question is, if the Parks Enforcement officers are unwilling or unable to enforce their own rules, why is the City of New York paying them?
