Councilman Sanders Urges Public Housing Residents To Attend Meeting

The Community Service Society, in collaboration with the NYC Public Housing Resident Alliance and Public Housing Residents of the Lower East Side (PHROLES), will host a hearing on the New York City Housing Authority's 2008 Annual Draft Plan. The NYCHA public hearing will take place on Wednesday, August 1 at Manhattan Center, Hammerstein Ballroom, located at 311 West 34 Street from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The NYCHA Draft Annual Plan was released with an announcement of a $225 million operating deficit this year, which is 34 percent higher than last year's $168 million deficit.

"In this time of uncertainty of what the future holds for Rockaway's NYCHA residents, employees and community centers, we must continue to fight to keep affordable housing, employment and our community centers open," said Councilman James Sanders Jr. "Now is not the time to be silent and complacent. The city has done its fair share and the state and federal government must do theirs," said Councilman Sanders.
