Community Welcomes 'Wounded Warriors'
Rockaway community members proudly cheer and wave American flags last Thursday evening as the welcome parade for severely injured soldiers makes its way along Rockaway Beach Boulevard in Belle Harbor. The U.S. "Wounded Warriors" and several members of the British Limbless Ex-Service Men's Association (BLESMA) visited the peninsula for a four-day sampling of summer fun Rockaway-style, including various watersports in Jamaica Bay as part of the third-annual "Wounded Warriors" weekend sponsored by the Graybeards and Disabled Sports USA. See pages 38, 39 and 40 for more photos of last weekend's events. Photo by Howard Schwach
