Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge Turns 70

Representatives from MTA Bridges and Tunnels and dozens of invited guests celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge on Tuesday, July 3. The event began with a motorcade of antique cars (seen here), which departed Floyd Bennett Field and crossed the 3,840-foot span before continuing to the Bathhouse at Jacob Riis Park where a ceremony took place. Barbara Larkin, president of the Belle Harbor Property Owners Association and Jonathan Gaska, District Manager of Community Board 14, attended the event.
The Peninsula Performing Arts Conservatory, directed by Michael Finnegan, drew rounds of hearty applause for their renditions of patriotic songs, including "America the Beautiful."
City Councilman Joseph Addabbo Jr. (right) and Danny Ruscillo, president of the 100 Precinct Community Council, crossed the bridge in this 1932 Plymouth.
Guests examine the photographic exhibit inside the bathhouse at Jacob Riis Park, which celebrates both the 75th anniversary of the park and the 70th anniversary of the bridge.
